First telecom invoice: pro rata
Your First Invoice from a Telecom Provider
Have you recently become a customer with a telecom provider for internet, TV, or phone services? Then your first invoice may look different than expected. It often covers a period longer than one month. This is completely normal and is part of the standard billing process used by most providers.
Why am I paying for more than one month?
The reason is that your subscription started during an ongoing billing cycle. So you are charged for:
-
The days your services were active before your regular billing date (pro rata period),
-
And the full subscription month that follows (advance payment).
This way, providers ensure that starting from your second invoice, you're billed on a fixed monthly schedule.
đź“… Example 1: Start mid-month
Your internet subscription starts on May 15.
Your provider’s billing date is the 30th of each month.
Your monthly fee is €30.
Your first invoice will include:
-
A pro rata charge from May 15 to May 29: approx. €15
-
Plus the full month May 30 to June 29: €30
Total: approx. €45
đź“… Example 2: Start just before billing date
Activation on April 27
Billing date: May 1
Monthly subscription: €25
First invoice:
-
Pro rata from April 27 to April 30: approx. €3.30
-
Full month May 1 to May 31: €25
Total: approx. €28.30
âś… What happens from the second invoice onward?
From your second invoice, you’ll be charged one full month in advance, in line with your regular billing cycle. Pro rata charges will only reoccur if you change your subscription in the future.
